A BIG Splash in the Colorado River

On September 12th at approximately 10:00 a.m., a vehicle plunges into the Colorado River on I-70 near Grand Junction.

Near mile marker 57, a man driving a gray Chevy pick-up came off an exit ramp onto I-70 while darting in and out of traffic erratically and at high speeds.  The Chevy proceeded East on I-70 for less than a mile when he suddenly rear-ended a white Ford Ranger Pick-up. This in-turn sent the Chevy into the guard rail. His right front tire was the only thing keeping the Chevy from plummeting into the Colorado River.

Needless to say, the tire and wheel broke from the truck and sent the Chevy into the river, not before throwing the driver through the wind shield.  The driver, upon being ejected, landed on the river bank and the truck in the river.  Amazingly enough the driver survived and was transported to a local hospital.

Conquering the "M" Wave!

Jonny Meyers, a student in Gunnison Colorado enjoys conquering the "M" Wave on the South Canal in Montrose Colorado.  Jonny and his friends spend numerous hours free-style kayaking the wave when not in school or studying.

On September 10th, Jonny and his friends, Tyler, Tom, and Alex road the wave all weekend.  I ask them what was so great about the South Canal?  The stated, "Just the wave!"  "It's the best in the US." stated Alex.   They also told me there's most likely no river in the US that creates such a phenomenal wave to free-style kayak.

Their favorite part of Montrose is partying and "The Wave".
